When her partner Michael Hoskin announced the birth of their son Hakavai last year, Turia Pitt became a mother for the first time. Turia claims that the birth of her bundle of joy has completely transformed her life’s objectives.
The 31-year-old woman now prioritizes spending time with her son over competing in martial arts. “I know how precious life is and I’d rather be with my son,” Turia Pitt said, noting how motherhood has changed her perspective. She shared with Stellar magazine, “I no longer have any desire to do an Ironman.”
Having suffered horrific burns when she got caught in a wildfire in 2011 during an ultramarathon, Turia explained that her focus has shifted away from athletic pursuits. “Having a baby has changed me, and when you become a mum, you quickly realize your whole life fits in around your kids,” she said.
Turia and her partner Michael Hoskin announced the arrival of their son Hakavai last year. Since then, she has expressed a desire to spend more precious hours with her boy rather than training for marathons. “I don’t want to be out running for five hours straight. I know how precious life is, and I’d rather be with my son,” she reiterated.
Despite this shift, Turia did achieve one sporting goal: getting back on a surfboard in July. She shared a series of happy photos on Instagram, showcasing herself riding the waves with an ear-to-ear grin. This milestone is significant, given that her bushfire ordeal left her with burns on 64 percent of her body.
Turia was candid about her journey back to surfing, stating, “It’s taken me years to get back to this (approximately seven, but who’s counting),” she wrote with her characteristic good humor. She encouraged her followers, saying, “Whatever it is that you want to improve in your life, go for it. Don’t hold back, give it everything you’ve got.”
Leaving her fans with an uplifting message, she added, “It’s gonna take work, and consistent effort, but whatever it is, it is possible.”
