Many cases of pregnant women experiencing complications during labor were treated by doctors at Vietnam – Cuba Friendship Hospital Dong Hoi.

Previously, pregnant woman NTL (41 years old), pregnant for the third time, with a gestational age of 40 weeks, was taken to Bo Trach District General Hospital waiting to give birth. When the cervix is fully dilated, this pregnant woman shows abnormal signs and should be referred to a higher level of care.

Doctor. Phan Le Nam, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital Dong Hoi, said that at the time of admission, this pregnant woman had continuous abdominal pain and the fetal heart rate was measured below normal. Doctors identified the mother’s vascular collapse and acute fetal distress, so they prescribed an emergency cesarean section.

The hospital’s red alert was activated, the pregnant woman was quickly taken to the operating room for an emergency surgery to “recapture” the baby boy weighing 3,300g. Doctors discovered that this woman’s uterus had poor contractions and there was a lot of bleeding in the stitches. The pregnant woman lost about 1,000ml of blood, doctors performed a continuous transfusion of 4 units of red blood cells and 2 units of plasma.

Determining that this was a case of post-cesarean section hemorrhage due to uterine atony/blood clotting disorder, the surgical team performed a partial hysterectomy to save the mother’s life.

After emergency measures, the patient was given whole-body hypothermia to slow down the process of nerve cell damage and prevent further damage.

After the fetus was “taken out”, doctors and nurses from the Department of Pediatrics quickly received it from the operating room for emergency and treatment. Doctor. Pham Thi Ngoc Han, Head of the Department of Pediatrics, said that the baby’s condition stopped breathing, stopped heart, did not cry… Methods of chest compression, endotracheal intubation of pediatric patients with support of balloon compression, and immediate mechanical ventilation be done.

” The child’s condition is extremely dangerous. The child was born crying, but he did not cry, did not breathe, turned blue… We quickly took many measures to help him breathe, ensuring his rhythm. For patients, especially children, every moment is very important. If not treated promptly, the child is at risk of long-term damage or even more serious death ,” Dr. Pham Thi Ngoc Han information.

When the child’s heart rate and breathing are stable, doctors carry out recovery treatments. The patient was given “whole body cooling”. According to BS. Han, this is a method of using a refrigerator to lower a child’s body temperature for 72 consecutive hours. After the child’s body temperature drops, it will slow down the process of nerve cell damage and prevent further damage.

After completing the hypothermia and recovery treatment, the patient was alert, fed milk well and was discharged from the hospital. Mr. Cuong, husband of pregnant woman L., said that the family was very worried when his wife showed signs of abnormality during labor. When the doctor informed him that he needed emergency surgery, he could only trust in the doctor’s dedication and ability. The process of his wife and young child being treated was like “sitting on a fire”.

” It was also very surprising because the previous births were normal, from the pregnancy to the time I went to the hospital to give birth, nothing happened. When my wife and children were in danger, I was very worried, but I just had to trust completely. I am very grateful for the efforts of the medical team. Through the moments of “fighting with death”, my wife and children are safe. Holding my baby in my arms, my happiness has multiplied many times over “, Mr. Cuong shared.
