Many stray or abandoned dogs end up living in landfills, since there they can survive on food waste and old clothes that people throw away, and that they use for shelter.
Sadly, this is what is happening in one of Turkey’s landfills, where a Kangal sheepdog, named Kratos, has been left there for a long time. This poor little dog was one of the unlucky residents of the landfill.
Crystal Carson, who managed to see the photo of this poor animal, was truly moved. Surprised, at the image of Kratos he was totally malnourished and his entire body was covered in mange, so he had lost almost all of his fur. The poor dog really looked very old and exhausted. Unlike other dogs, Kratos was already an old dog.
Carson was very distressed for the dog, since upon seeing him in these conditions he greatly doubted that he would be able to survive such an infamous situation. After meeting him, the image of Kratos constantly haunted her, no matter what she was doing.
Carson didn’t know what to think when he saw hundreds of dogs in these critical circumstances. Very restless, she managed to notice how these poor dogs made their small burrows and shelters with scraps of clothing and eating the rotten food they found in the garbage. That reality had a strong impact on the woman.
The RWB team has been trying to help these dogs since 2017, giving them medical care and healthy food. They have tried to find them a home where they can live in more dignified conditions. But this task has really been very difficult for them, since there are many dogs. For now, what they can do is select those most in need, to at least help a few. Unfortunately, there are many dogs that live in these places.
It is very difficult for the RWB team to make this selection, leaving behind so many dogs that also deserve to be helped. Many of them will not be able to survive in such a situation, which is why they almost always take the youngest and oldest puppies out first, since they will not be able to survive the low temperatures and hunger. Kratos was one of the lucky ones who received help
Kratos, now 8 years old, is one of these dogs that had to be removed immediately, since due to his condition he would die if he remained in this place. He looked very dehydrated, hungry and without strength. Carrying him with the team was not easy, since it was difficult for him to move. Kratos was very grateful to the staff who cared for him.
Upon taking him to the vet, he was immediately treated for an eye infection, mange, and severe dehydration. When he did the blood test, they found him normal, which has made Carson very happy, as this will make it much easier to help him. The team described him as a very calm and obedient dog.
The dog was taken to a rescue center in Bursa, Türkiye. Where he was very well received by Emre Demir. Upon arrival, they served him food and fresh water, which made Carson very happy because he knew that Kratos was going to be very well cared for there. He would also be guaranteed medical service in case he needed it. His progress has been stable
Carson wanted to take him to the United States, despite knowing that this would bring him many difficulties. However, it has been very difficult to get his travel documents, since these dogs are considered a “national treasure” in Turkey. But she wants to find a suitable home for Kratos, where he will receive a lot of love and protection. Everyone hopes to find him a home so that he can live out the rest of his remaining years.
