On Monday night, in the southern state of Haiti, a remarkable event occurred when 19-year-old Nandini, the mother of Karnataka, gave birth to a daughter via cesarean section. The newborn, named Karnatakâ, weighed an astonishing 15 pounds (6.8 kg), double the average birth weight.
Venkatesh Raju, a seasoned practitioner with 25 years of experience, expressed his amazement, saying, “In 25 years of practice, I’ve never seen a baby so huge. She is a marvel. She might not only be the heaviest baby ever born in India, but also the heaviest baby girl ever born in history, in my opinion.” The enormous size of the baby startled everyone, including her mother and the physicians.
Nandini, who weighed 94 kg and stood 5.99 feet tall, had a straightforward pregnancy and was unaware that she was about to have such a large child. The doctors confirmed that the mother did not have diabetes, which often leads to obesity in newborns, although her size suggested high sugar levels. Currently, the baby is being monitored in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) before being discharged from the hospital in a few days.
Dr. Poornima Manu, the gynecologist who delivered the baby, shared, “Her arrival was a surprise for all of us. There were no hazards, and the procedure was completed in approximately 30 minutes. She is quite attractive and large.” Despite initial concerns about thyroid problems, the baby is eating well and suffering from no health issues, such as abnormal thyroid or sugar levels. Routine hospital check-ups during the pregnancy showed no symptoms of gestational diabetes or thyroid disease in the mother.
Both mother and child are doing well, and they will be released once the baby is confirmed to be healthy. Venkatesh Raju remarked, “I visited her in person. She is a lovely creation of God. I’m very happy to see how well she’s doing.”
Arun and Nandini, who have been married for two years, are eagerly anticipating bringing their first child home. Both parents are delighted with their daughter’s arrival and are eagerly counting the days until they can bring her home.
