Natashia Corrigan, an Australian mother of three, was in for a surprise when she gave birth to her fourth child, Baby Brian Jr. At 40 weeks and five days into her pregnancy, she delivered a baby boy who weighed a whopping 6.06 kilograms (approximately 13.5 pounds) and measured 57 centimeters long. This made Baby Brian Jr. one of the largest babies ever born at the Mercy Hospital for Women and the heaviest baby ever delivered naturally there.
What’s remarkable is that Natashia underwent a natural delivery without general anesthesia or an epidural. She relied solely on “laughing gas,” a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen commonly used for pain relief during labor. Despite the gas being a mild anesthetic, Natashia powered through seven long hours of labor.
Natashia expressed gratitude towards her partner, Brian, and her sister, Kurriki Ellis, for their support during the challenging birth. She recounted that due to the baby’s size, additional staff had to assist with the delivery.
Reflecting on her experience, Natashia emphasized the power of positive thinking during childbirth and advised expecting mothers to stay positive and focus on deep breathing. Her story has garnered attention not only for the size of her baby but also for her determination and resilience during childbirth.
Both Natashia and Baby Brian Jr. are doing well post-delivery, despite the initial shock Natashia felt due to the unexpected size of her baby and the natural birth process she underwent. Her advice to other pregnant mothers underscores the importance of mental preparation and maintaining a positive mindset during labor.
