It’s always sad to see dogs trying their best to fend for themselves on the streets. Some were born strays, while others had lived in a good home until their owners decided to leave them.

This dog was a victim of abandonment by his owners when they moved residence and left him there to fend for himself, he lived alone for more than a year after his owners got rid of him.

Pumbaa is a senior dog mercilessly abandoned by his owners in his neighborhood after they moved away. The dog carefully wanders the streets and sometimes rests near his old house in the hope that his owners will return.

Unfortunately, it had been like this for over a year and there was no sign of the owners coming back for it. Fortunately, some kind neighbors began to feed the poor dog.

The dog was found on the lawn of what was once his home

Hope for Paws found out about Pumbaa’s situation after receiving a call from someone and they immediately took action once they had a little more information about the dog. JoAnn Wiltz and Lisa Arturo were sent to the location.

Just seconds after arriving at the reported location, they already had their eyes on Pumbaa lounging on a patch of grass near the sidewalk.

This is the story of the rescue and salvation of little Pumbaa

They parked their car a good distance from Pumbaa, but the dog noticed the two women get out of the vehicle . When Pumbaa left her place, JoAnn and Lisa set up an open cage to lure Pumbaa with food inside, the dog was very cautious not to be fooled by the cage.

Pumbaa returned to the same spot while Lisa and JoAnn waited patiently in their car. The dog was delighted to see that there was food in front of him, but he also knew that the rescuers were trying to trap him in that cage.

Didn’t fall so easily for the cage ruse

Pumbaa was smart enough not to put his hind legs inside the cage as he carefully took the food inside. The rescuers had no choice but to go out and catch the dog personally.

It took them a while to earn Pumbaa’s trust, but eventually, he turned into a sweet dog after realizing that they wouldn’t hurt him . The dog was still hungry, but he ran away as soon as he saw the leash in his hands.

However, the rescuers did not give up easily and carefully chased him down the street . After spending some time persuading him, the dog finally learned to trust them and freely took food from his hands.

Lisa and JoAnn gently put Pumbaa on a leash and then carried him to the backseat of their car. Rescuers headed to the veterinary hospital to give Pumbaa the care he needed before placing him in a foster home.

Pumbaa was already feeling protected and very adorable, the older dog loving all the attention he was getting from the people at the hospital, not to mention the foster home he was sent to.

The dog lived with the other foster dogs and it was evident how happy he was with his new family. Pumbaa is spending the rest of his life as a senior dog in loving surroundings and he is forever grateful for it.
